UNE QUESTION DE RECHERCHE

MUSÉE DU LOUVRE // PARIS, FRANCE

The above is a photograph I took at the Louvre, and can you guess what it’s of? ⁣

It's a window fastening, and it’s not without lack of trying that I can tell you almost nothing about it. I did email my question to the Louvre research department — what might have been the only subject line in regards to window trimmings in a sea of inquiries on priceless art. What possessed me to do so I'm still not entirely sure, other than this: you never know where there might be a story. And a month later, I did actually receive a response, indicating that unfortunately there is very little information on “ces espagnolettes en bronze doré,” other than that they are indeed located in the Charles X galleries designed throughout the early 19th century. So whatever story there might be, I won’t be the one to tell you… ⁣

Also, in case it’s useful to anyone else, this is the email I used, listed on the Louvre website for research questions: contact-recherche-scientifique@louvre.fr⁣
